Community Based Rehabilitation

Community Based Rehabilitation

The concept of community based rehabilitation (CBR) has been a part of the Indian value based tradition from time immemorial whether they be issues relating to health, education, livelihood etc. It is a process built around social mobilization, community participation and organization to serve their own people.

CBR today, is based on the principles of human rights, gender equity and mobilization of social forces that, ensure respect for human dignity and constitutional rights to citizens of the country. Consequently, provision of basic services by the legitimate Governments and Local - Self Panchayati Raj Institutions who represent the people in the community becomes mandatory.

CBR is also a process of empowerment which enables communities to organize themselves and participate both in the socio-economic and cultural development efforts while serving the most vulnerable members of the community and the people at risk especially, persons with disabilities, children, women and senior citizens.

This mass participatory movement with the assistance of trained manpower from within the communities will ultimately serve themselves to improve their quality of life of their people.
